EPW – Richard Jolley, Hackney, very rare early English stem-wind, 47mm, silver OF original consular case bearing London hallmarks for 1828, casemaker’s “TH“ marking in cameo, engine turned silver dial with applied gold numerals, SW-KS, going barrel, large bi-metallic compensation curb acting on balance spring, diamond endstone, cylinder escapement, gilt mvt, s#545. The winding system of the present watch, a pinion on the stem of crown engaging a gear under the dial, is more primitive than the better known and slightly later system by Viner. Mvt: GRO, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright plates have few short scratches and spot of oil haze; dial has few darkened areas and few fine surface scratches; excellent hands; case shows light wear, scattered fine scratches and small nicks to rear, dent to rear shoulder at left side, very shallow dent to rear shoulder at lower right, hinge missing one end cap; bow pivots freely with substantial play at pendant, crown shows medium wear; good domed glass crystal.
